The focus of the La Habra High School Counseling staff is to provide programs,
activities, instruction and support services within an atmosphere which
encourages all students to accomplish and exceed their academic goals and
aspirations. Programs offered have three purposes:
-
to give students an
awareness of their personal abilities and goals,
-
to provide a realization
of the career and academic opportunities available, and
-
to encourage
students to take the necessary action to attain their personal goals.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Counselors have an open door policy for students and parents. Any student, no
matter his/her achievement level, may receive support services from the
counseling staff.
Counselors meet each senior and parent in the Fall semester to evaluate current
academic progress and discuss academic and vocational plans. In the Spring of
each year, counselors meet with every sophomore student and parent to review
academic progress, career surveys, test scores, and discuss future concerns.
The
Regional Occupation Program (ROP)
is administered by an ROP Counselor. It
is a hands-on vocational training program for students age 16 and over. See
details later in this flier.
The Career Center, staffed by two Guidance Technicians, is available for
individual and class use. Using computer programs, students can explore
career, college, and financial aid options.
Students are encouraged to take standardized tests as preparation for the
college application process. PSAT, SAT 1, SAT 2, AP tests, and other
qualifying exams help in deciding future educational choices.
